About CHARLES AND HENRY CREED Designer

 The house of Creed started in 1760. Henry Creed ran the family business at the end of the 19th Century, when the house was making riding clothes for Queen Victoria and the Empress Eugenie. It was Eugenie who, in the 1850's persuaded Creed to relocate from London to Paris, where the family-run firm is still headquartered.

By 1900, Creed was creating day costumes and suits for fashionable Europe. Some suits were cut with a Basque jacket over a full flaring skirt. Creed promoted the use of tweed for his suits. The spy Mata Hari, who was shot in 1917, was reportedly wearing a Creed suit for her execution.

Charles Creed was born in 1909. After studying in England and Vienna, he took a short training period from Bergdorf Goodman in New York. In the Thirties, he took over the family business. He became involved in the Utility Garment scheme during the second World War. He set up a new fashion house in London in 1946. He was also very successful in selling restrained traditional English tailoring to American customers. His house was noted for its classically tailored and refined suits.

 He worked in London and New York during the 40's creating lines for US sportswear houses. He was not a fashion innovator but like his father and grandfather, he produced woolen and tweed suits of distinction.

Charles Creed died in 1966 but the family-run firm continues. Creed has an archive of over 200 vintage perfumes available to a new couture clientele.

Creed's Perfumery

Since it's founding in 1760, Creed has supplied perfumes to the crowned heads of Europe - from Napoleon who commissioned Royal English Leather, to Queen Victoria who favoured Fleurs de Bulgarie. Her contemporary Empress Eugenie of France, inspired an Oriental fragrance named for her. It was Eugenie who persuaded Creed to relocate from London to Paris.

Creed Perfumes have collaborated with famous celebrities such as actors, actresses, and royalty, resulting in a library of original perfumes. If a perfume is for royalty, the formula remains secret for the client's lifetime, for others a 10-year exclusive deal is agreed, after which it is offered to the public.
